KLM Laboratories, Inc. began in 1973. At that time there were very few custom orthotic laboratories in the United States. This was also the beginning of the plastics era of foot orthotics and neutral position casting and orthotics. With the obvious need for a lab to produce these types of products, Dr. Howard J. Marshall, DPM, launched KLM Lab. Dr. Marshall was in private practice from 1960 until 1978. He then devoted the remainder of his career to education and public service in the Podiatric profession. As Chief of the Podiatry Section, Department of Orthopedics for Los Angeles County, USC Medical Center from 1978 – 1995, Professor of Podiatric Medicine for the California College of Podiatric Medicine from 1988 – 1995, and Professor Emeritus 1995 – present, Dr. Marshall has contributed greatly to the enhancement of foot biomechanics.
Our mission is to provide foot orthotics and ankle foot orthotics with an emphasis on quality and service. KLM fabricates custom orthotics for Podiatrists, Chiropractors, Orthotic and Prosthetic Technicians, Pedorthists, Physical Therapists, and Medical Doctors. KLM also produces prefabricated products that are used in the medical and retail professions. KLM’s products include:
- Neutral or Weight Bearing casting orthotics
- Prefabricated orthotics and insoles
- Orthotic materials and supplies
- Foot and ankle orthotics
- Diabetic shoes.
KLM is leading the way with the newest technological advancements to make orthotic products utilizing 3D Laser Imaging techniques as well as with the traditional casting techniques utilized by foot care professionals. KLM also developed the patented System_Rx technique for evaluating unique biomechanical foot deformities and fabricating cost effective custom made orthotics via injection molding. As one of the largest foot orthotic laboratories in the world, KLM is continually researching and developing new standards in the foot orthotic industry.
